A lawyer is responsible for handling the legal affairs of their clients. This could include anything from getting a lien removed from a piece of property or witnessing their will to representing them in a court case or handling custody matters. There are many types of lawyers handling many types of law and each needs their own type of business card.

The lawyer’s business card should include as much contact information as possible. Accessibility provides reassurance to anxious clients. It may be a good idea to include your paralegal’s main office number as well. Of course be sure to put on any web addresses of the firm for clients to access a full directory.

The scales of justice are a common theme on the lawyer’s business card but be sure that they convey the right message. Sometimes having imagery of any kind on the lawyer’s business card can come across as a little cheesy. It may work fine for automotive law but perhaps not quite as well for corporate law. Keep all clip art and design work to a minimum.

Choose a thick well cut card stock and engraved printing for the lawyer’s business card. Lawyers don’t usually come cheap and skimping on your business card budget may rub clients the wrong way. At the same time, overly fussy and overly expensive cards may leave clients with the impression you waste money. Find a happy medium that conveys seriousness of purpose, quality and economy.

Distribute the lawyer’s business card to potential clients and new clients, when networking with colleagues and when attending conferences or continuing education classes. You never know when someone will need your services.
