Selling Organic: Business Cards for Green Retailers
Green grocery stores are a growing retail market. Whole grain foods, organic produce and natural locally grown food continues to grow in popularity. With many people making the swap from traditional processed foods to an organic lifestyle, the competition for customers is stiff. Organic retailers should close attention to the design and layout of their business card.
Green shoppers want to know how a business makes the green claim as well as traditional information such as location and contact numbers. Be sure to include and informative tagline on your card to help consumers make the right choice. “Locally grown organic ingredients” is a good indicator of your wares.
Choosing to use the color green on an organic business card is, in my opinion, a bit of a double edged sword. The green revolution has come so far and sometimes over use of traditional symbols can come off a bit cliché. Better to focus on colors associated with the service offered or the company. Don’t forget that more than three colors can crowd a card and have potential clients scanning for information among the clutter.
Soy inks are the ideal statement for an organic retailer’s business card. Soy inks are natural and non toxic meaning that the card can be recycled and or wont off gas in landfills. A number of printers offer this option now and the ink is very intense in color. Consider getting a soy ink symbol on the back of your card to indicate your green worthiness.
The best accompaniment to soy inks is recycled card. There are a number of post consumer waste, recycled content and tree free paper options on the market today. Choose a card with a smooth flat finish so as not to deter or distract from the printed content. And again, get the recycled symbol printed on your card and use this as a subtle marketing tool.
In a world growing green, it is important for those in the organic food business to carry through their planet friendly sentiments to every detail of their profession. Business card design for organic retailers should be focused, informative and sustainable.
